Countdown Leader Sequence
My countdown leader sequence combines traditional photography-based stop motion with modern visual trends.

I have often observed, in today’s day and age, that audiences tend to praise the extreme sides of two very different approaches — the practical, and the digital. Within the context of cinema, for instance, people will either rave about a film with impressive CGI, or complain about the “lack of practical effects these days”. It is always one or the other.

In my opinion, 21st century design is a marriage of the two, rather than a competition. I do not deny that technology continues to push the boundaries of design in many impressive ways; however, there is a unique quality obtained from certain physical techniques that will never be replicated by pixels. For this reason, I designed a stop motion countdown using practical objects, which I then manipulated and assembled digitally.

I gathered items from around my home, a mismatched collection of trinkets and utensils from the kitchen. This reflects another one of my beliefs, which is that 21st century design is not exclusive to professional tools and industry-standard production methods. I was curious to explore composition and typography using low-brow, commonplace materials.
